The Alan Katritzky Fund

Alan Katritzy was a man of many passions. He loved windsurfing, was a wine expert, and was very interested in languages and travelling. But above all he had an incredible enthusiasm and passion for science. He was the author of approximately 2,500 publications in his field, and mentored hundreds of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.

Background information

Professor Alan Katritzky received an honorary doctorate from Ghent University in 2001. In order to further stimulate chemistry research, Alan left a bequest to Ghent University. This was used to set up the Alan Katritzky Fund, which hands out the two-yearly “Ghent University Katritzky Award for Organic Sythesis”.

Aim

The aim of the Fund is to promote research into heterocyclic chemistry and honour this in memory of the Fund’s donor, Honorary doctor in Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences, Dr. Alan Katritzky (2001).
