Centre for Social Theory

The Centre for Social Theory focuses upon theoretical and theory-driven empirical research, organized around four major themes:
- “Big structures, large processes and huge comparisons” (Tilly 1984)
- The micro-macro link
- The agency-structure debate
- Current debates in sociological theory
In addressing these questions, research at the Centre for Social Theory both contributes to a variety of fields within sociology, but given that many of the key theoretical debates today are no longer discipline-specific, CST also engages in theoretical discussions with other disciplines.
