Electric Vehicles in Action

IWT Living Lab Electric Vehicles

The platform was created as a representative large-scale platform for charging infrastructure. By means of a large park of electrical vehicles and data loggers, the platform could verify the accurate geographical coverage for public charging stations, the impact on the electrical network and the best method to calculate the charging costs for the end-user. Thanks to the participation of municipal and provincial governments, sufficient attention was given to the important impact for the public.

No less than 161 vehicles were provided for this project. 114 of these vehicles were subsidized, another 44 were tested by the consortium. In total 59 e-cars, 52 e-vans, 3 e-busses, 25 e-scooters, 15 e-bicycles and 7 e-quads were deployed.

To charge all these vehicles, 220 charging points, with each two connections, were placed during the three project years. In total, these charging points were spread over 71 so-called charging islands and 44 cities and towns. 200 of these charging points are public. Most of these (170) dispose of connections for cars, bicycles and scooters. 50 charging points can only be used for electrical bicycles. Moreover, three quick chargers were installed at Total gas stations.
