Bert obtained his Master's degree in Industrial Design Engineering Technology at Ghent University. During and along with his studies he toke on a lot of design and elite challenges. At 2017, He had been selected to embark on an elite engineering internship at the global headquarters of Huawei in Shenzhen, P.R.China. Bert also participated in the annual Samsung Innovation Challenge, in collaboration with MICT. As a finalist, he presented his outlook on a change in the design strategy to enhance the Samsung brand experience. During his Master of Science, in his thesis, he researched the possibility to valorize fruit and vegetable waste streams into a full-fledged product that is more environmentally friendly than the alternatives. His dissertation eventually won the OVAM student Eco-Design award in 2019. After is graduation, Bert had the opportunity to do a PhD on a BOF funding, but already signed a contract to work for an international cookware company (Allinox bvba), where he would work as a product development engineer for a whole year. At Allinox, among other projects, he was responsible for their first ever patent-pending product-system design.

In 2020, Bert got the opportunity to pursue his dream of doing a PhD and at the same time work as an assistant on projects and help teach courses at Industrial Design Engineering Technology at Ghent University Campus Kortrijk. In this assistant career, he will conduct research aimed at obtaining a doctoral degree in the Industrial Design Engineering Technology.
