Research Data Management
Research Data Management (RDM) entails all actions needed to ensure that data are secure, easy to find, understand, and (re)use, not only during a research project, but also in the longer term.
According to the RDM policy of Ghent University researchers are encouraged (and sometimes obliged) to write a Data Management Plan (DMP) at the start of their research, to carefully manage and store their research data during their research, and to preserve (and to the extent possible) share relevant data for verification and reuse purposes after their research. If applicable, researchers also need to take into account the RDM requirements of external funding agencies and publishers, as well as relevant legislation (such as the GDPR).

Intro to DMPs
Research data management is an integral part of sound scientific research. It aims to allow for research data to be easy to find, understand, re-use, secure and sustainable.
Planning data management is the first step towards proper research data management, as it will allow to develop strategies on how to deal with research data during and after research (e.g. which data will be generated or re-used, where will data be stored, how will data be organized, how will documentation be done, how will data be shared), thereby saving time and gaining efficiency in the long run.
In this intro to DMPs, we will explain how research data management can be planned, how to write a data management plan (DMP) and which guidelines and regulations to comply with.
The training is targeted to starting researchers that are or will be writing a DMP for their project or fellowship.
Registration: register here to participate to the info session.

Faculty-specific info session on RDM and Data Storage - 14 June 2022
Storing data during a research project has to be a flexible process. Data should be easy to reach, but at the same time safe and robust. In this info session, you will learn about the data storage options at UGent and receive guidance on how to select the best storage solution for your purpose. Moreover, we will explain how to approach back-ups, data security measures for confidential data and data preservation. They will also give highlights on how to use these storage solutions in combination with the HPC infrastructure at UGent.
Research Data Management in (Bioscience) Engineering and Natural Sciences
21 April 2022 (13:30-17:00) and April 22nd (9:00-13:00)
This in-depth course will help doctoral students to develop their knowledge and practical skills in handling and managing the research data they collect. Having these skills becomes increasingly important to researchers seeking to advance their careers. The lecturer will guide the attendees through the key aspects of how to manage, document, store and safeguard research data well and how to plan and implement good data management in research projects.
DMP intro for new researchers (FBW) - 3 March 2022
In this intro to DMPs, it is explained how research data management can be planned, how to write a data management plan (DMP) and which guidelines and regulations to comply with. Information regarding encryption and data repositories was given as well.

Training RDM and Data Management Plan - 23 November 2021
In this training, it is explained how research data management can be planned, how to write a data management plan (DMP), and what the do's and don'ts are in data management planning.
In addition, the best practices on data storage, security and file organisation and data documentation and sharing are provided.
How to write a Data Management Plan - 14 December 2020
In this training, it is explained how research data management can be planned, how to write a data management plan (DMP) and which guidelines and regulations to comply with. The training is targeted to all researchers that are or will be writing a DMP for their project or fellowship as well as promotors and supervisors of these researchers.
